Cell Phones for Car Phreaks
Monday Feb 05, 2007 05:15:00 PM
As if being a car nut wasn't already a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, bank-account draining preoccupation, mobile phone manufacturers have decided to up the ante by offering several must-have, high-end cell-phones for the auto fanatic inside all of us.
Just at the end of last month, Ferrari and Motorola announced the Motorazr maxx V6 Ferrari Challenge phone, a high-speed (get it?) 3G model featuring an engraved Ferrari logo prominently displayed on the cover, Ferrari engine sounds when the phone is switched on and off, specialized ring tones, exclusive Ferrari screensavers and wallpapers and a nifty red leather carrying case.
Only a few months earlier, Nokia saddled up with Lamborghini to produce the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Lamborghini edition, complete with special Lamborghini themes and ring tones, Lamborghini ball bearings in the stainless steel slider mechanism, and the Lamborghini name and logo laser-etched across the front and back. This model followed the April, 2006 release of the Nokia 8800 Aston Martin edition, bundled with specially created ring tones, engine sounds, wallpapers and themes.
Each phone is a limited edition, runs about $1,000.00 and up, and will not be duplicated in the future, though in five years they'll all be pretty much worthless once GSM is thoroughly abandoned as a wireless protocol.
Me? I'm holding out for the Ford Pinto phone. It's really cheap, and includes a medley of ring tones based on old torch songs, an interior mechanism that falls apart on impact, plus a dedicated button that controls a flame thrower located on the back of the handset, great for impromptu barbeques. The asbestos carrying case in Burnt Sienna costs extra.

| OMG, I can only imagine how mush the Nokia costs. Great phones, but cost so much! i had a Nokia years ago, it was 2 years old and still was able to sell it on Ebay for over $150. |
